Representing the United States at the Paris Olympic Games this past summer\, Hocker shocked everyone but himself by winning the Men’s 1\,500m with a thrilling finish. His time of 3:27.65 is now the Olympic record for the metric mile.\nOlympian Cole Hocker will give an inspirational presentation to the community on Thursday\, September 26th at E.C. Glass High School Auditorium at 6:00pm. The event is free and open to the public and a special opportunity for local sports teams.\nThe 23-year-old\, Indianapolis\, Indiana native\, holds multiple\, USA Track & Field\, national titles including four in the 1\,500m and one in the 3\,000m. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games\, Hocker finished sixth in the 1\,500m.

DESCRIPTION:Get your Christmas Eve morn started off on the right foot with a friendly\, no pressure run on the iconic Virginia 10 Miler course! Not up to running the full 10 miles? Been celebrating a bit too much this holiday season? Need to get that last minute shopping done? No worries! Just come out and run as much as you care to that day! As always\, we will have our yearly shirt swap which allows folks to clean out their closets and drawers and maybe find a new owner for some poor unused shirt! Please donate only like-new or very gently worn shirts! Any unclaimed shirts will be donated to charity. Baked goods\, hot chocolate\, cider\, or any other type of post-run food/drink would be appreciated! If bringing something to share\, please indicate what so we don’t end up with a dozen fruitcakes and no chocolate chip cookies! Gatorade will be provided. Festive holiday attire is encouraged! Event is held rain\, shine\, snow\, sleet…you get the idea! Fine Print: This is a no fee event and one does not have to be a member of the Lynchburg Road Runners Club (LRRC) to participate so bring your family and friends! While this event is sanctioned and promoted by the LRRC\, it is a “run at your own risk” event. Runners MUST stay on the sidewalks and not run in the roadway except as necessary for crossing the street! Please be cautious of vehicles when crossing streets\, watch out for one another\, and be courteous to other runners and walkers on the sidewalks. THIS IS NOT A RACE!

DESCRIPTION:Please join the Lynchburg Road Runners Club (LRRC) and all your cool running friends for this annual Fun Run on the iconic Virginia Ten Miler course! Since Christmas Eve morning falls on a Sunday this year\, in order to not conflict with church services that day\, the Fun Run has been moved to Saturday\, December 23 @ 8am\, which keeps it in line with a normal running day for most of Santa’s elves who are trying to stay in shape during the Christmas season. Besides\, Santa’s elves will be plenty busy enough already on Christmas Eve day while his reindeer are resting for their big night! Santa and Rudolph would appreciate it if any elves would volunteer to bring some tasty treats to share with the other elves and reindeer! Hot drinks too! Elves and reindeer get hungry and thirsty from running! Festive holiday attire is encouraged! There might even be a special gift from Santa for the best costume! While some elves and reindeer will run the entire 10 mile course\, feel free to come out and run as much or as little of it as you like that day! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE LRRC TO PARTICIPATE! Also\, in the past\, it has been our habit of doing a shirt swap as part of this activity\, so if you have an over-abundance of running shirts in good condition taking up room in your drawers and closet and you wouldn’t mind parting with some\, please bring them along in case someone else would enjoy getting a new-to-them running shirt. All unclaimed shirts will be donated to charity. Since the roads are not closed for this event\, we will run on the sidewalks along Langhorne Road\, Rivermont Terrace\, and Rivermont Avenue. PLEASE DO NOT RUN IN THE STREETS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY! This is a run-at-your-own-risk event so please adhere to traffic signals when crossing streets and watch out for yourself and your fellow runners!

Wear your best elf attire!  \nSpeaking of attire\, Santa knows there are many experienced elves who have more running shirts than they have drawer space for and there are some other elves that might enjoy a “new to them\, gently worn used running shirt” so please bring a shirt or two to swap with your fellow elves. The 2015 Genworth Virginia 10 Miler will be the Virginia State Championship for the Road Runners Club of America. \nThe festivities begin Thursday night with packet pick-up\, and continue Friday evening with the Amazing Mile Children’s Run\, and a fun family-friendly festival. On Saturday\, thousands will take part in the 10 mile run\, 4 mile run\, and 4 mile walk.
