DESCRIPTION:Start your 4th of July celebration with Percival’s Island Firecracker 5 Miler! \nRace #4 of the Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series. Lynchburg is known as the “Hill City”….but this course is flat\, flat\, flat.  The start finish is located at the Blackwater Creek Natural Area Percival’s Island in downtown Lynchburg and the course follows the Blackwater Creek Bikeway…a paved rails to trails path along the James River. A bit longer than a 5k but without the effort of a 10k\, 5 miles is considered by many the perfect distance.

DESCRIPTION:The Virginia Commonwealth Games will host the The State Games of America for 2019. This is an Olympic-style event featuring competition between State Games medal winners (gold\, silver\, bronze) from across the nation. There are currently 30 states conducting or organizing statewide sports festivals known as State Games. \nParticipants throughout the state of Virginia AND State Games qualifiers are invited to challenge themselves on this 5K (3.1 mile)  road course\, touring the campus of Liberty University. \nThe State Games of America 5k is also part of the 2019 Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series.

Heralded as the largest bridge of its kind in the United States\, the High Bridge and the battle for control of it was a contributing factor to General Robert E. Lee’s surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in nearby Appomattox Courthouse. Today\, the bridge is the centerpiece of the 31-mile High Bridge Trail State Park that includes the historic commercial district of Farmville. \nThe race will be held on an out-and-back course beginning in Farmville Downtown at High Bridge Trail State Park Plaza.  The park is a rail to trail conversion that is wide\, level and has very little grade.  The trail surface consists of finely crushed\, well-packed limestone.  The half marathon will cross the historic High Bridge twice.  High Bridge is nearly a half mile long and towers 125 feet above the Appomattox River. \nRunners will enjoy on-course support with spirit groups\, music\, water stations\, and Port-O-Potties. Finsher medals will be presented to all Half Marathon finishers who complete their race during the designated time period of 4 hours.

On May 5th\, 2016\, we started serving nutritious lunch meals to anyone who has a need for a meal that day during lunchtime. NHN Volunteers prep and serve lunches twice a week.
