SUMMARY:3rd Annual High Bridge Half Marathon & 5k
DESCRIPTION:The town of Farmville in south central Virginia has been hailed as “America’s Crucible”. The site of one of the last battles of the War Between the States and one of the first critical moments in the Battle for Civil Rights in Education\, Farmville is truly the Heart of Virginia. Home to Green Front Furniture and a delightful historic commercial district filled with restaurants\, retail\, and galleries\, Farmville promises something for everyone who comes to spend a day\, a weekend\, or a lifetime.  \nThe historic High Bridge runs through the Heart of Virginia in Prince Edward and Cumberland Counties. Heralded as the largest bridge of its kind in the United States\, the High Bridge and the battle for control of it was a contributing factor to General Robert E. Lee’s surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in nearby Appomattox Courthouse. Today\, the bridge is the centerpiece of the 31-mile High Bridge Trail State Park that includes the historic commercial district of Farmville. \nThe race will be held on an out-and-back course beginning in Farmville Downtown at High Bridge Trail State Park Plaza.  The park is a rail to trail conversion that is wide\, level and has very little grade.  The trail surface consists of finely crushed\, well-packed limestone.  The half marathon will cross the historic High Bridge twice.  High Bridge is nearly a half mile long and towers 125 feet above the Appomattox River. \nRunners will enjoy on-course support with spirit groups\, music\, water stations\, and Port-O-Potties. Finsher medals will be presented to all Half Marathon finishers who complete their race during the designated time period of 4 hours.

Those who prefer a slightly less vigorous way to begin the day may substitute a 5 kilometer fun walk instead. \nThe 10K begins at Hampden-Sydney College\, near the intersection of College Road and Via Sacra and follows a mostly downhill\, fast course along the Back Hampden Sydney Road to the finish at First Avenue Field.

SUMMARY:13th Annual Angels Race Triathlon
DESCRIPTION:This race began in 2003 with 100 participants. A majority of participants had “Brittany” written on their arm as they raced in honor of Brittany Groover who had died in an automobile accident in November of 2002. Now in its 13th year\, this race has become an early season favorite for triathletes from across the state of Virginia and beyond. The event is both highly competitive and enjoyable for novice and first time athletes. Don’t miss the Expo on Saturday during packet pickup\, said by many to be the best “mid-size event” race expo in the southeast. Who is your angel? Who will race with you in 2015? \nAfter considerable thought\, prayer and soul searching\, we have decided that April 26\, 2015 will be the final Angels Race. When the race was started\, we had no idea it would be so successful and such a blessing to so many. We also had no plan for how long we would put on the race. The Angels Race is very much a family run event and it is not something we see passing along to others. Our families have evolved to a place where we are now ready to end this amazing journey on a high note. We are thankful for all of the blessings this race has brought to us and to the countless people who have been part of the twenty races we have produced in NC & VA since 2003.
