DESCRIPTION:The United Way 5K on the Runway\, is perfect for participants of all ages who are able to complete 5K in 60 minutes or less. The course is flat and fast. The course follows the taxiway parallel to the main runway. Come out\, join the fun\, support United Way of Central Virginia\, and see Lynchburg Regional Airport in a whole new way! There is a 500-person and 60 minute time limit for the event. The United Way 5K on the Runway is scheduled to take flight on SATURDAY April 27th\, 2024\, 5:00PM. Proceeds from this event support the mission of the United Way of Central Virginia.

DESCRIPTION:The Lynchburg Road Runners Club and Type 1 Diabetes Experience (T1DE) have hosted this race to provide support for local families living with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. It has become a great community and family event. The proceeds from this race have helped with education on diabetes management\, nutrition education and cooking demos\, community support groups and even camps for children with Type 1 Diabetes. The Memorial Day 10K is the 7th race in the 2024 Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series.

This event raises fund for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy. \nThe BeastLake is back for the sixth year\, and we have some new twists along with favorite obstacles from past years. Back for 2024 is a “ stay cool” option to the course that includes a ‘slip n slide” type water slide down part of the course\, an option to do the balance beam over an inflatable pool. and an option to run through a section of sprinklers midway through the race. All the water features are OPTIONAL and designed to bring an additional fun experience to the race. We will also be having food trucks at this years race with registered 5KOC and 5K participants receiving food vouchers.

The event is the final event of the 2024 Spring/ Summer Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series. \nRegistration will open late May 2024. \nTHE LEGEND OF KEMPER the RABBIT\nSometime around 1912\, the same year that the Kemper Street Train Station was opened by Southern Railway\, local Lynchburg residents recall witnessing a certain rabbit chasing trains as they left station. It wasn’t long before that rabbit was given the name “Kemper”. Some say Kemper was able to keep up with departing trains for almost a mile!  If you are lucky to run the Kemper Street Trail extension early in the morning you might see a descendant or two of Kemper running right along side you.

The event is free and open to the public and a special opportunity for local sports teams.\nThe 23-year-old\, Indianapolis\, Indiana native\, holds multiple\, USA Track & Field\, national titles including four in the 1\,500m and one in the 3\,000m. SUMMARY:10th Annual High Bridge Half Marathon & 5k
DESCRIPTION:The town of Farmville in south central Virginia has been hailed as “America’s Crucible”. The site of one of the last battles of the War Between the States and one of the first critical moments in the Battle for Civil Rights in Education\, Farmville is truly the Heart of Virginia. Home to Green Front Furniture and a delightful historic commercial district filled with restaurants\, retail\, and galleries\, Farmville promises something for everyone who comes to spend a day\, a weekend\, or a lifetime.  \nThe historic High Bridge runs through the Heart of Virginia in Prince Edward and Cumberland Counties. Heralded as the largest bridge of its kind in the United States\, the High Bridge and the battle for control of it was a contributing factor to General Robert E. Lee’s surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in nearby Appomattox Courthouse. Today\, the bridge is the centerpiece of the 31-mile High Bridge Trail State Park that includes the historic commercial district of Farmville. \nThe race will be held on an out-and-back course beginning in Farmville Downtown at High Bridge Trail State Park Plaza.  The park is a rail to trail conversion that is wide\, level and has very little grade.  The trail surface consists of finely crushed\, well-packed limestone.  The half marathon will cross the historic High Bridge twice.  High Bridge is nearly a half mile long and towers 125 feet above the Appomattox River. \nRunners will enjoy on-course support with spirit groups\, music\, water stations\, and Port-O-Potties. Finsher medals will be presented to all Half Marathon finishers who complete their race during the designated time period of 4 hours.

SUMMARY:32nd Annual John A. Stephenson Memorial Youth Run
DESCRIPTION:Join area youth runners of all ages for the 31st Annual Dr. John A. Stephenson Memorial Youth Run presented by the Lynchburg Road Runners. Dr. Stephenson was one of the founding pediatricians of Richeson Drive Pediatrics. Now Lynchburg Pediatrics. He promoted healthy children and being active outside. When he died at a young age a memorial race was started to honor his passion for promoting healthy lifestyles. \nRace distances and courses are….3 & under 1/8th mile\, 4-5 yrs old 1/4 mile\, 6-7 yrs. old 1/2 mile\, 8-13 yrs. old 1 mile. All events take place at Riverside Park\, Rivermont Ave.\, Lynchburg\, Virginia. Proceeds benefit the Lynchburg Road Runners Club a 501c3 non-profit whose mission remains to promote community health and wellness through the sport of running.
