DESCRIPTION:Held the second Saturday of December each year\, The Deck the Heels 5k is not only a fun race\, but\, it is also a huge holiday extravaganza with Santa and Mrs. Clause\, food\, hot chocolate\, music\, and more! And of course there’s medals for those who complete the race. The race begins and ends at the Claire Parker Foundation headquarters at 1019 9th Street Altavista\, VA. All proceeds go to filling care boxes and toy boxes. \nGlow-in-the-Dark accessories will be available at packet pickup. We encourage runners to “Deck” themselves out for this festive Christmas event. \nWe are also pleased to announce the addition of the VIRTUAL Deck the Heels 5k for those that are unable to join us in person. Virtual participants are able to choose a 5k course and submit their time to our Results page. \nThe Claire Parker Foundation was created in memory of our daughter\, Claire. We provide ongoing care and emotional support for children and families battling pediatric cancer. She knows from experience that just because life batters you\, it doesn’t mean you have to stay beat down. Today\, as an accomplished mid-life Ironman triathlete\, she helps people of all ages face their fears\, overcome their anxieties\, and discover the beauty of a victorious life. \nDr. Meyer also offers individual and small group courage coaching based on her expertise as a licensed chiropractic physician\, but even more\, she coaches from an experiential perspective. You CAN find courage\, embrace your value\, and defy fear. If you want to feel inspired and motivated to accomplish your dreams\, goals\, and desires\, come hear from Dr. Nancy! \nRebekah Trittipoe is an 8-time author and speaker. Her life exemplifies focus\, motivation\, endurance\, and perseverance. After a three-year stint as a high school teacher and coach\, she furthered her studies at The Ohio State College of Medicine\, School of Allied Health Professions to gain the proper education setting her up for a 25-year career inside the walls of cardiac surgery operating rooms. She quickly rose to multiple national leadership positions within the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology\, culminating in becoming the National Manager of Continuing Medical Education. This role offered many opportunities to provide instruction and a call to excellence from platforms worldwide.  \nAfter retiring from the medical field\, Rebekah authored 8 books\, started a blog\, and continues to impact audiences in a variety of venues: schools and universities\, athletic departments\, coaches\, athletes\, faith-based groups\, and industry. She uses stories from medicine and her 50 year athletic career to inspire and motivate audiences to become better people because better people make better anythings.

SUMMARY:2nd Annual Free Clinic Colon Cancer 5K Run / Walk
DESCRIPTION:This run and walk is for anyone who has been impacted by colon cancer because NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE. Survivors\, current battlers\, caregivers\, family members\, friends\, coworkers\, sisters\, husbands\, mothers\, or anyone who wants to increase access to healthcare and screening sign up to help change the statistics. \nColon Cancer screening is one of the most underused ways to save someone’s life from cancer that exists. Stage one colon cancer has over a 90% survival rate but colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the US. Lack of access to healthcare and early screening measures but 60% of these deaths can be avoided with screening. 76% of uninsured have not had a colon cancer screening and lack access to proper medical care. \nThe FREE CLINIC OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA\nThe mission of the Free Clinic of Central Virginia is to ensure high-quality\, compassionate\, and comprehensive healthcare for every member of our community. We fulfill this mission by providing high-quality medical\, dental\, pharmacy\, behavioral health\, and health education services to those in Central Virginia who do not have the resources to obtain these essential healthcare services. We are not funded by the government but instead we are funded by our community and largely run by volunteers that are passionate about serving others. We are here for you.

Completing a 5K is optional. But we sure hope you give it a try! #inspiremovement \nWHO:\nRegistration is open to beginner runners\, men and women\, age 18+ (currently at a 12-15 min/mile pace) for one mile. Not sure what your pace is? 4 laps equal a metric mile on any outdoor high school or college track. \nWHAT:\nAn *8 week 5k training program for mid to late April 5ks (Blossom to Bottle 5K\, Run 4 Their Lives 5K\, United Way 5k on the Runway).\n* Bonus 9th week if choose to run with us through the end of April. \nWHERE:\nMeeting at Riverside Runners\, Lynchburg’s specialty running and walking store\, 2480 Rivermont Avenue\, Lynchburg\, VA 24503 \nWHEN:\n6pm on Tuesdays beginning February 20th and ending Tuesday April 23rd. \nHAPPY PACE TRAINING GROUP BENEFITS:\n– Coach led\, once a week practices from Riverside Runners each Tuesday.\n– A training program for beginner runners focused on an April 5K.\n– Save up to 25% on footwear\, apparel\, and accessories at Riverside Runners
