DESCRIPTION:The Heart of Virginia Festival has been moved to September. As a result the annual Heart of Virginia 10k & 5K has moved to September. We look forward to continuing this Farmville tradition! \n10K Race Description (RUN ONLY): \nThe 10K begins at the Main Street Plaza on the High Bridge State Park Trail in Farmville\, Virginia. This out and back course runs in the direction of the old Farmville train station. Grade is relatively flat. Surface is fine\, crushed\, gravel. Timing and scoring of the 10K run will be provided. Both the 10K and the 5K events start together at 8:30am.  Medals will be presented to the top 3 overall male & female finishers and top finishers in each age category that participated in the 10K. Categories for men and women include: 18 & under\, 19 – 29\, 30 – 39\, 40 – 49\, 50 – 59\, 60 – 69\, 70 & over. \n5K Run/Walk Description (RUN & WALK): \nThe 5K begins at the Main Street Plaza on the High Bridge State Park Trail in Farmville\, Virginia. SUMMARY:10th Annual High Bridge Half Marathon & 5k
DESCRIPTION:The town of Farmville in south central Virginia has been hailed as “America’s Crucible”. The site of one of the last battles of the War Between the States and one of the first critical moments in the Battle for Civil Rights in Education\, Farmville is truly the Heart of Virginia. Home to Green Front Furniture and a delightful historic commercial district filled with restaurants\, retail\, and galleries\, Farmville promises something for everyone who comes to spend a day\, a weekend\, or a lifetime.  \nThe historic High Bridge runs through the Heart of Virginia in Prince Edward and Cumberland Counties. Heralded as the largest bridge of its kind in the United States\, the High Bridge and the battle for control of it was a contributing factor to General Robert E. Lee’s surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in nearby Appomattox Courthouse. Today\, the bridge is the centerpiece of the 31-mile High Bridge Trail State Park that includes the historic commercial district of Farmville. \nThe race will be held on an out-and-back course beginning in Farmville Downtown at High Bridge Trail State Park Plaza.  The park is a rail to trail conversion that is wide\, level and has very little grade.  The trail surface consists of finely crushed\, well-packed limestone.  The half marathon will cross the historic High Bridge twice.  High Bridge is nearly a half mile long and towers 125 feet above the Appomattox River. \nRunners will enjoy on-course support with spirit groups\, music\, water stations\, and Port-O-Potties. Finsher medals will be presented to all Half Marathon finishers who complete their race during the designated time period of 4 hours.

Dr. Stephenson was one of the founding pediatricians of Richeson Drive Pediatrics. Now Lynchburg Pediatrics. He promoted healthy children and being active outside. When he died at a young age a memorial race was started to honor his passion for promoting healthy lifestyles. \nRace distances and courses are….3 & under 1/8th mile\, 4-5 yrs old 1/4 mile\, 6-7 yrs. old 1/2 mile\, 8-13 yrs. old 1 mile. All events take place at Riverside Park\, Rivermont Ave.\, Lynchburg\, Virginia. Proceeds benefit the Lynchburg Road Runners Club a 501c3 non-profit whose mission remains to promote community health and wellness through the sport of running.

Proceeds from this event support Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County\, Inc (NHN) where our primary focus is to assist individuals in overcoming food insecurity by providing nutritious meals through food kitchens and selective shopping Food Warehouse. On May 5th\, 2016\, we started serving nutritious lunch meals to anyone who has a need for a meal that day during lunchtime. NHN Volunteers prep and serve lunches twice a week.

DESCRIPTION:Held the second Saturday of December each year\, The Deck the Heels 5k is not only a fun race\, but\, it is also a huge holiday extravaganza with Santa and Mrs. Clause\, food\, hot chocolate\, music\, and more! And of course there’s medals for those who complete the race. The race begins and ends at the Claire Parker Foundation headquarters at 1019 9th Street Altavista\, VA. All proceeds go to filling care boxes and toy boxes. \nGlow-in-the-Dark accessories will be available at packet pickup. We encourage runners to “Deck” themselves out for this festive Christmas event. \nWe are also pleased to announce the addition of the VIRTUAL Deck the Heels 5k for those that are unable to join us in person. Virtual participants are able to choose a 5k course and submit their time to our Results page. \nThe Claire Parker Foundation was created in memory of our daughter\, Claire. We provide ongoing care and emotional support for children and families battling pediatric cancer. Runners will continue on Main St. into Hurt\, VA and proceed through the tunnel. Runners will turn around at stoplight at English Construction in Hurt\, and then proceed north back on Main Street.
