DESCRIPTION:Support our Armed Forces and the National D-Day Memorial by participating in a patriotic themed 5K Run/Walk. On May 16\, 2020\, the National D-Day Memorial will still be hosting the Armed Forces Day 5K; however\, we have moved this event to a virtual race due to guidelines regarding large gatherings by the CDC. \nSo\, What Is A Virtual Race? \nFor years\, many races have offered a virtual runner option that allowed runners to participate no matter where they lived and to still support the race. Runners can sign up for the race\, post their times online after running a 5K\, and receive a 2020 Armed Forces Day 5K race shirt by mail. \nHow Do I Participate in the Virtual Armed Forces Day 5K? \nStep 1: Register to run or walk the virtual Armed Forces Day 5K at www.dday.org/armed-forces-day-5k. The registration fee will remain at $25 through race day. \nStep 2: Tell your friends\, family\, and co-workers about the race and explain why it is important to you. Invite them to sign up and run with you in groups of 10 or less). \nStep 3: On May 16 (or anytime on Armed Forces Day weekend)\, lace up your running shoes\, head outside or hop on your treadmill\, and walk or run to support our nation’s heroes past and present who defend our freedom! DESCRIPTION:As a result of this year’s Heart of Virginia Festival being cancelled\, the Heart of Virginia 10K & 5K will also be cancelled. We look forward to seeing you next year and apologize for any inconvenience. Those that have already registered will be receiving a refund of their entry fee. \n10K Race Description (RUN ONLY): The 10K begins at the Main Street Plaza on the High Bridge State Park Trail in Farmville\, Virginia. This out and back course runs in the direction of the old Farmville train station. Grade is relatively flat. Surface is fine\, crushed\, gravel. Timing and scoring of the 10K run will be provided. Both the 10K and the 5K events start together at 8:30am.  Medals will be presented to the top 3 overall male & female finishers and top finishers in each age category that participated in the 10K. Categories for men and women include: 18 & under\, 19 – 29\, 30 – 39\, 40 – 49\, 50 – 59\, 60 – 69\, 70 & over. \n5K Run/Walk Description (RUN & WALK): The 5K begins at the Main Street Plaza on the High Bridge State Park Trail in Farmville\, Virginia. DESCRIPTION:Lighten-Up Lynchburg is a timed 5K Run/Walk to encourage activity and increase awareness about the obesity epidemic. This race is hosted by the Lynchburg Mayor’s Youth Council\, and a portion of the money earned will go towards raising obesity awareness. \nThe 5K will take place at Peaks View Park–a very flat course\, so predict fast times! Please park at either the Ardmore or Tenbury Drive entrance. \nPacket Pickup will take place at Riverside Runners on Friday\, March 6\, 2020 from 12-6pm\, and Saturday\, March 7\, 2020 from 9-9:30am at Peaksview Park. Registration will be available during these times as well. The race will begin at 9:30 am. \nAwards will be given to the top three male and female finishers\, as well as the top two finishers\, male and female\, for each of the following age groups: 12 & Under\, 13-18\, 19-29\, 30-39\, 40-49\, 50-59\, 60 & Up. \nT-shirts are guaranteed to everyone who registers by February 7\, 2020. On May 5th\, 2016\, we started serving nutritious lunch meals to anyone who has a need for a meal that day during lunchtime. NHN Volunteers prep and serve lunches twice a week.

SUMMARY:7th Annual High Bridge Half Marathon & 5k
DESCRIPTION:The town of Farmville in south central Virginia has been hailed as “America’s Crucible”. The site of one of the last battles of the War Between the States and one of the first critical moments in the Battle for Civil Rights in Education\, Farmville is truly the Heart of Virginia. Home to Green Front Furniture and a delightful historic commercial district filled with restaurants\, retail\, and galleries\, Farmville promises something for everyone who comes to spend a day\, a weekend\, or a lifetime.  \nThe historic High Bridge runs through the Heart of Virginia in Prince Edward and Cumberland Counties. Heralded as the largest bridge of its kind in the United States\, the High Bridge and the battle for control of it was a contributing factor to General Robert E. Lee’s surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in nearby Appomattox Courthouse. Today\, the bridge is the centerpiece of the 31-mile High Bridge Trail State Park that includes the historic commercial district of Farmville. \nThe race will be held on an out-and-back course beginning in Farmville Downtown at High Bridge Trail State Park Plaza.  The park is a rail to trail conversion that is wide\, level and has very little grade.  The trail surface consists of finely crushed\, well-packed limestone.  The half marathon will cross the historic High Bridge twice.  High Bridge is nearly a half mile long and towers 125 feet above the Appomattox River. \nRunners will enjoy on-course support with spirit groups\, music\, water stations\, and Port-O-Potties. Finsher medals will be presented to all Half Marathon finishers who complete their race during the designated time period of 4 hours.

SUMMARY:Heart of Virginia Festival 10K & 5k Run
DESCRIPTION:10K Race Description (RUN ONLY): The 10K begins at the Main Street Plaza on the High Bridge State Park Trail in Farmville\, Virginia. This out and back course runs in the direction of the old Farmville train station. Grade is relatively flat. Surface is fine\, crushed\, gravel. Timing and scoring of the 10K run will be provided. Both the 10K and the 5K events start together at 8:30am.  Medals will be presented to the top 3 overall male & female finishers and top finishers in each age category that participated in the 10K. Categories for men and women include: 18 & under\, 19 – 29\, 30 – 39\, 40 – 49\, 50 – 59\, 60 – 69\, 70 & over. \n5K Run/Walk Description (RUN & WALK): The 5K begins at the Main Street Plaza on the High Bridge State Park Trail in Farmville\, Virginia. Runners and walkers are welcome to participate in the 5K and will be ranked together. This out and back course runs in the direction of the old Farmville train station. Grade is relatively flat. Surface is fine\, crushed\, gravel. Both the 10K and the 5K events start together at 8:30am.  Medals will be presented to the top 3 overall male & female finishers and top finishers in each age category.  Categories for men and women include: 18 & under\, 19 – 29\, 30 – 39\, 40 – 49\, 50 – 59\, 60 – 69\, 70 & over. \nDisqualification:  Participants must complete the event distance they have registered for.  A participant that is registered for the 10K and participates in the 5K during the event will be disqualified.
