SUMMARY:9th Annual High Bridge Half Marathon & 5k
DESCRIPTION:**  FOR UPDATES CONCERING HURRICANE IAN\, PLEASE VISIT THE EVENT’S REGISTRATION PAGE ** \nThe town of Farmville in south central Virginia has been hailed as “America’s Crucible”. The site of one of the last battles of the War Between the States and one of the first critical moments in the Battle for Civil Rights in Education\, Farmville is truly the Heart of Virginia. Home to Green Front Furniture and a delightful historic commercial district filled with restaurants\, retail\, and galleries\, Farmville promises something for everyone who comes to spend a day\, a weekend\, or a lifetime.  \nThe historic High Bridge runs through the Heart of Virginia in Prince Edward and Cumberland Counties. Heralded as the largest bridge of its kind in the United States\, the High Bridge and the battle for control of it was a contributing factor to General Robert E. Lee’s surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in nearby Appomattox Courthouse. Today\, the bridge is the centerpiece of the 31-mile High Bridge Trail State Park that includes the historic commercial district of Farmville. \nThe race will be held on an out-and-back course beginning in Farmville Downtown at High Bridge Trail State Park Plaza.  The park is a rail to trail conversion that is wide\, level and has very little grade.  The trail surface consists of finely crushed\, well-packed limestone.  The half marathon will cross the historic High Bridge twice.  High Bridge is nearly a half mile long and towers 125 feet above the Appomattox River. \nRunners will enjoy on-course support with spirit groups\, music\, water stations\, and Port-O-Potties. Finsher medals will be presented to all Half Marathon finishers who complete their race during the designated time period of 4 hours.

SUMMARY:30th Annual John A. Stephenson Memorial Youth Run
DESCRIPTION:Join area youth runners of all ages for the 30th Annual Dr. John A. Stephenson Memorial Youth Run presented by the Lynchburg Road Runners. Dr. Stephenson was one of the founding pediatricians of Richeson Drive Pediatrics. Now Lynchburg Pediatrics. He promoted healthy children and being active outside. When he died at a young age a memorial race was started to honor his passion for promoting healthy lifestyles. \nRace distances and courses are….3 & under 1/8th mile\, 4-5 yrs old 1/4 mile\, 6-7 yrs. old 1/2 mile\, 8-13 yrs. old 1 mile. All events take place at Riverside Park\, Rivermont Ave.\, Lynchburg\, Virginia. Proceeds benefit the Lynchburg Road Runners Club a 501c3 non-profit whose mission remains to promote community health and wellness through the sport of running.

DESCRIPTION:The Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fall 5k\, presented by Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County\, will take place on the beautiful campus of Sweet Briar College. Enjoy the picturesque scenery of the infamous “Dairy Loop” as well as the surrounding of Sweet Briar College. Proceeds from this event support Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County\, Inc (NHN) where our primary focus is to assist individuals in overcoming food insecurity by providing nutritious meals through food kitchens and selective shopping Food Warehouse. On May 5th\, 2016\, we started serving nutritious lunch meals to anyone who has a need for a meal that day during lunchtime. NHN Volunteers prep and serve lunches twice a week.

DESCRIPTION:The Children’s Miracle Network is proud to present the annual I AM WOMAN 5k. This year’s event offers an “in person” and “virtual” option for participation. This is Lynchburg’s only ALL FEMALE road race. \nMAKE A DIFFERENCE BY PARTICIPATING \nThe I Am Woman 5K 2021 race is working with the Centra Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network to raise funds for the parents and children in our community. This ensures we can partner with our families and help them to live their best lives.\nFunds raised have helped secure specialized newborn and pediatric equipment such as fetal monitors\, radiant Panda warmers and Omni beds for the Intensive Care Nursery. This equipment allows us to keep children in our community! \n100% of funds raised through your participation and donations stays here in Lynchburg and makes it possible for us to save the lives of our tiniest population!!
