DESCRIPTION:Start your 4th of July celebration with Percival’s Island Firecracker 5 Miler! \nLynchburg is known as the “Hill City”….but this course is flat\, flat\, flat.  The start finish is located at the Blackwater Creek Natural Area Percival’s Island in downtown Lynchburg and the course follows the Blackwater Creek Bikeway…a paved rails to trails path along the James River. A bit longer than a 5k but without the effort of a 10k\, 5 miles is considered by many the perfect distance.

DESCRIPTION:What’s one of the fastest ways to a 1 mile personal best?  A downhill mile of course! Join us Friday evening for the Kemper Downhill Mile. Fun\, Downhill\, and FAST are words that best describe this course.  The event is the final event of the 2024 Spring/ Summer Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series. \nRegistration will open late May 2024. \nTHE LEGEND OF KEMPER the RABBIT\nSometime around 1912\, the same year that the Kemper Street Train Station was opened by Southern Railway\, local Lynchburg residents recall witnessing a certain rabbit chasing trains as they left station. It wasn’t long before that rabbit was given the name “Kemper”. Some say Kemper was able to keep up with departing trains for almost a mile!  If you are lucky to run the Kemper Street Trail extension early in the morning you might see a descendant or two of Kemper running right along side you.

Dr. Stephenson was one of the founding pediatricians of Richeson Drive Pediatrics. Now Lynchburg Pediatrics. He promoted healthy children and being active outside. DESCRIPTION:Join us in our mission to restore our clinic and continue serving those in need. Together\, we can make a difference! \nWe are excited to announce our third annual 5K for the Free Clinic! In previous years\, this event has successfully raised funds for colon cancer awareness\, education\, and screenings. Unfortunately\, this past Christmas\, our clinic building suffered extensive smoke damage due to a nearby fire. \nAs we work to RISE and REBUILD\, we are pivoting our efforts to ensure our patients continue to receive care at alternative locations. This year\, our 5K will focus on raising funds to rebuild our Main Street location\, so we can resume providing essential medical and dental services to our underinsured community. \nThe FREE CLINIC OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA\nThe mission of the Free Clinic of Central Virginia is to ensure high-quality\, compassionate\, and comprehensive healthcare for every member of our community. We fulfill this mission by providing high-quality medical\, dental\, pharmacy\, behavioral health\, and health education services to those in Central Virginia who do not have the resources to obtain these essential healthcare services. We are not funded by the government but instead we are funded by our community and largely run by volunteers that are passionate about serving others. We are here for you.

A bit longer than a 5k but without the effort of a 10k\, 5 miles is considered by many the perfect distance.

Fun\, Downhill\, and FAST are words that best describe this course.  The event is the final event of the 2025 Spring/ Summer Lynchburg Road Runners Race Series. \nTHE LEGEND OF KEMPER the RABBIT\nSometime around 1912\, the same year that the Kemper Street Train Station was opened by Southern Railway\, local Lynchburg residents recall witnessing a certain rabbit chasing trains as they left station. It wasn’t long before that rabbit was given the name “Kemper”. Some say Kemper was able to keep up with departing trains for almost a mile!  If you are lucky to run the Kemper Street Trail extension early in the morning you might see a descendant or two of Kemper running right along side you.

SUMMARY:Deck the Heels 5K Night Run
DESCRIPTION:Held the second Saturday of December each year\, The Deck the Heels 5k is not only a fun race\, but\, it is also a huge holiday extravaganza with Santa and Mrs. Clause\, food\, hot chocolate\, music\, and more! And of course there’s medals for those who complete the race. The race begins and ends at the Claire Parker Foundation headquarters at 1019 9th Street Altavista\, VA. All proceeds go to filling care boxes and toy boxes. \nGlow-in-the-Dark accessories will be available at packet pickup. We encourage runners to “Deck” themselves out for this festive Christmas event. \nWe are also pleased to announce the addition of the VIRTUAL Deck the Heels 5k for those that are unable to join us in person. Virtual participants are able to choose a 5k course and submit their time to our Results page. \nThe Claire Parker Foundation was created in memory of our daughter\, Claire. We provide ongoing care and emotional support for children and families battling pediatric cancer. To find out more about the work we do visit: claireparkerfoundation.org \nCOURSE:\nRace will start at Corner of Broad St. & Main Street and go north on Main Street. Runners will turn around at intersection of Main St. & Lola Ave. at Miller and Wolf Dentistry. Runners will proceed South on Main Street\, crossing the bridge over the river. Runners will continue on Main St. into Hurt\, VA and proceed through the tunnel. Runners will turn around at stoplight at English Construction in Hurt\, and then proceed north back on Main Street. Finish line will be at corner of Main Street & Broad St. \nAs a virtual runner or walker you can participate from anywhere in the world on the 5K course

DESCRIPTION:A 5K supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg. Start your “new” year off with some extra motivation to stay fit and support one of Lynchburg’s most dynamic non-profits. Our venue and course will use the Percival’s Island Natural Area and Blackwater Creek Bikeway. The race distance is a 5K (3.1 miles)! We have a new theme…the Big Game 5K! DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 17th annual Point of Honor 5K.  This event raises awareness for organ and tissue donation\, as well as providing funds to LifeNet Health\, a leading enabler of the organ and tissue donation process.   \nThis year’s event will take place starting in Downtown Lynchburg\, with race HQ at the Depot Grille.  The start and finish line are just a short walk away from this location.   \nDue to anticipated work on the Blackwater Creek Trail\, the utilized course for 2026 is still under consideration.  Upon final determination\, a course map will be provided.  Note that the course will start and finish at the Depot Grille adjacent locations\, with the majority of the course utilizing the Blackwater Creek Trail. \nWALKERS ARE WELCOME!\nPETS & STROLLERS ARE PROHIBITED.\nCOME FOR THE FUN\, DOOR PRIZES\, AND FOOD!\nAPRIL IS NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH!
