DESCRIPTION:The United Way 5K on the Runway\, is perfect for participants of all ages who are able to complete 5K in 60 minutes or less. The course is flat and fast. The course follows the taxiway parallel to the main runway. Come out\, join the fun\, support United Way of Central Virginia\, and see Lynchburg Regional Airport in a whole new way! There is a 500-person and 60 minute time limit for the event. The United Way 5K on the Runway is scheduled to take flight on SATURDAY April 27th\, 2024\, 5:00PM. Proceeds from this event support the mission of the United Way of Central Virginia.

SUMMARY:6th Annual Beast Lake 5k & Obstacle Course Race
DESCRIPTION:Eastlake Community Church invites you to participate in the 6th Annual Beastlake 5K and Obstacle Course races on Saturday July 6th. This is a community event open to all people\, of all fitness levels\, from the novice to the hardcore athlete. Choose from one of three events that best suits your fitness and skill level. This event raises fund for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy. \nThe BeastLake is back for the sixth year\, and we have some new twists along with favorite obstacles from past years. Back for 2024 is a “ stay cool” option to the course that includes a ‘slip n slide” type water slide down part of the course\, an option to do the balance beam over an inflatable pool. and an option to run through a section of sprinklers midway through the race. All the water features are OPTIONAL and designed to bring an additional fun experience to the race. We will also be having food trucks at this years race with registered 5KOC and 5K participants receiving food vouchers.

DESCRIPTION:Olympic gold medalist Cole Hocker will be a Special Guest for this year’s Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler. Representing the United States at the Paris Olympic Games this past summer\, Hocker shocked everyone but himself by winning the Men’s 1\,500m with a thrilling finish. His time of 3:27.65 is now the Olympic record for the metric mile.\nOlympian Cole Hocker will give an inspirational presentation to the community on Thursday\, September 26th at E.C. Glass High School Auditorium at 6:00pm. The event is free and open to the public and a special opportunity for local sports teams.\nThe 23-year-old\, Indianapolis\, Indiana native\, holds multiple\, USA Track & Field\, national titles including four in the 1\,500m and one in the 3\,000m. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games\, Hocker finished sixth in the 1\,500m.

Proceeds from this event support Neighbors Helping Neighbors of Amherst County\, Inc (NHN) where our primary focus is to assist individuals in overcoming food insecurity by providing nutritious meals through food kitchens and selective shopping Food Warehouse. On May 5th\, 2016\, we started serving nutritious lunch meals to anyone who has a need for a meal that day during lunchtime. NHN Volunteers prep and serve lunches twice a week.

In previous years\, this event has successfully raised funds for colon cancer awareness\, education\, and screenings. Unfortunately\, this past Christmas\, our clinic building suffered extensive smoke damage due to a nearby fire. \nAs we work to RISE and REBUILD\, we are pivoting our efforts to ensure our patients continue to receive care at alternative locations. This year\, our 5K will focus on raising funds to rebuild our Main Street location\, so we can resume providing essential medical and dental services to our underinsured community. \nThe FREE CLINIC OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA\nThe mission of the Free Clinic of Central Virginia is to ensure high-quality\, compassionate\, and comprehensive healthcare for every member of our community. We fulfill this mission by providing high-quality medical\, dental\, pharmacy\, behavioral health\, and health education services to those in Central Virginia who do not have the resources to obtain these essential healthcare services. We are not funded by the government but instead we are funded by our community and largely run by volunteers that are passionate about serving others. We are here for you.
